Swing for the girls

Swing for the Girls

Article by Jeanne Lambson, Sacramento Area Director

On Sunday, I attended the Swing for the Girls tournament at Haggin Oaks, put on by the LPGA Amateur Golf Association, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento. The proceeds benefit "The First Tee of Greater Sacramento." One of our EWGA/PWGA members, Vicki Philpott, was the Chair, and it was attended by several PWGA members.

Each team of four is complimented by a First Tee player. The First Tee Player that was assigned to our foursome was thirteen-year old Nailah Ngaophasy. What a joy it was to play with a confident, skilled, and charming young lady. Needless to say, we needed her. When we pulled out our drivers, she pulled out her 5 iron and out drove all of us. She was also incredibly tactful. When I jokingly commented that she and I had the same Taylor made clubs and therefore, I wondered why hers went so much further than mine, her response that her club was a "high-loft" 7 wood.

I don't even like scrambles, but I loved this one. I hope we can get more support from PWGA members for this event in the future. It was well done and a real treat to play with these young ladies.
