September Playday Report

By Jeanne Lambson, Sacramento Area Director

The weather and pace of play could not have been better. The staff bent over backwards to make us feel welcome and picked up clubs at our cars with staff and golf carts flying around the parking lot as fast as they could go. The Bing Maloney Tournament Director even joined us in the restaurant to check people in for lunch. I’m not sure who had more fun, us, or him. (George Golden, another outstanding Morton/Haggin Oaks employee). Pace of play was outstanding—around 4.5 hours and many commented how great it was. The attendance was down from our regular number of 120 plus, perhaps because of vacations, and some conflicts with club championships, but fun was certainly had by those who came. Bing Maloney is a nice, non-stressful golf course to play.

The Low Gross Overall winner was Junko Nakahira from Whitney Oaks with a gross 78. The Low Net Overall winner was our PWGA Rules Director, Dana Carrigan, with a net 63, also a Whitney Oaks and Turkey Creek member. Both were awarded $25 Haggin Oaks Gift Cards and 10 medallion points for their efforts.

There was $546.00 in Haggin Oaks Gift Cards awarded to 8 flights, and $388.00 was paid out in the skins game. The top skins game winner was Beryl Scott from Mather WGC. She won 4 skins worth $40 in the first flight. 80 Players participated in Skins, and there were 18 teams in the Play Day Team Play competition.

Medallion points and Play Day Team Play points, and the cumulative points of  both, will not be published until after the Sierra View Awards Play in November. Many pictures were taken once again by our super duper Intern Alejandra Duffy.

Another well execute tournament thanks to the Sacramento Area Tournament Team: (In alpha order: Marsha Berry, Gabrielle Self, and Debbee West, and Rules Officials, Dana Carrigan, Lee Ann Lobaugh, and Pat Keys.

Also thanks to the help of the PWGA VP, Sue Kort and our “fun photo recorder,” Alejandra Duffy, PWGA Intern.

$84.00 was donated by players to the UVS program.
