2007 –WHAT A YEAR IT’S BEEN!
By Joan Rector
This year has been an outstanding year for PWGA. It has been a very busy and exciting year for me. I have attended multiple meetings, tournaments and other functions that have given me the opportunity to meet several of you and view our organization from a totally different aspect.
First, I want to thank our Executive Board. This board has explored every issue brought before us and made decisions we felt were the best for the association and for our members. Hats off to Caroline O’Brien, our Executive Director, for her collaboration and hard work. She has certainly helped to make this job easier for me.
I also want to thank you – our PWGA members. Your generous contributions to the UVS Swing Club, Susan G. Komen Foundation, and Junior Golf have been admirable. The raffles held at the Spring Partners and Mixed Couples Tournaments raised over $5000 to fund our Jr. Golf Grant Program. You also raised over $5000 for the UVS Swing Club. Your participation in our major tournaments and the area playdays has made this a very successful year.
This year has brought some excitement, too:
- PWGA was delighted to have some celebrity this year in the person of member Elsie McLean, who at the age of 102, made her first hole-in-one.
- The initial Tri-Association (PWGA, NCGA and WGNAC) Tournament was held at the beginning of September at Poppy Ridge. I golfed in this event and had a great time.
- An online survey was conducted to get some direct feedback from members.
- We tried something new this year in an effort to save some money for our members. We had a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start on the first day of the Sr./Super Senior Tournament and the Team Play Championship. It was met with mixed reviews, but was worth the try.
- A newly-designed PWGA website should be online soon thanks to Shalini Poddar and Lyn Chauvet.
- The Executive Office has been expanded to accommodate one more person. We now have coverage in the office Monday through Friday in an effort to provide more service to our members.
This year has been extremely fulfilling for me. It has truly been a privilege to have served as your 2007 PWGA President.
